    Reasons for "unfit for service” 20 September 1892 after 2 days:
    Under chest measurement
    Contraction of little fingers of both hands
    Varicose veins of legs.
    re-enlisted 12 January 1893 in Canterbury for 5 years with Kings Royal Rifles; extended service 26 October 1900 for 12 years.
    Appears by 1914 to have been in the West Yorkshire Regiment (Leeds rifles) as Acting Sergeant Major and then to become Quartermaster of the 7th (R) Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment.
    Service Number 9368
    Served in Malta South Africa, India and Ceylon as well as Home.
    Military Character: Exemplary
    Discharged 24 September 1914 after 21 years and 257 days.
    The record for  Richard William Banks military records are extensive spreading over several pages. His mother is given correct as Rachel Jane ROGERS and brother as John Samuel both of 4 Elgar Place, Boundary Road, Ramsgate, Kent on Richard's war records
    Richard was appparently severly  wounded at Ladysmith on  13th December 1899.  Showes later as damage to little fingers.
