  1. 1843 Carisbrook, Isle of Wight, Hampshire (address at marriage) Father John - a Butcher
1851 Census - 8 Last Lane, St Mary, Dover, Kent. There was a Sarah HUNTER, aged 32 unmarried, Sister-in-Law a dressmaker born Weymouth, Dorset with the family so confirming the surname of Elizabeth.
1861 Census - St Mary, Dover, Kent
IGI Baptism, we had an 1804 birth for Thomas but is could easily have been in 1805 so this baptism would seem to match what we are looking for. The parents are down as John and Sarah DICKIN and there is another son a John DICKIN baptised 8th June 1803 at the same place. (I was trying to see where the ROBERTS and the MILLER in the christian names fitted in. I think the MILLER came from the HUNTER name so I was looking for the ROBERTS with the DICKEN name. There is no actual record of a marriage of John DICKIN to a Sarah, there are several which have been submitted by member of the LDS church but none of these give an actual date or a maiden name for Sarah. Again there are more than one John DICKIN baptism in the period he would have been baptised, around the 1780 period, so cannot decide which one is his. There are also no Sarah ROBERTS baptisms in Newton Solney in the period we are looking at. (and no Sarah MILLER's at all)
  2. First two entries are for family of Elizabeth
1851 Census - 1 John's Place, Margate Street, Dover, Kent. This is not for Elizabeth but for her family, so proving I have the right one, John HUNTER, Elizabeth's father is a Customs Officer born Weymouth, Dorset, his wife is Elizabeth an their are three more children other than Elizabeth and Sarah, all born Dover, Kent, Margaret 19, Frederick 17, a Butcher and William 16 a Butcher.
1861 Census - 2 Congate Hill, Hougham, Dover, Kent. John is a Superannuated Customs Office, aged 69 born Weymouth, Dorset, his wife Elizabeth is 68 born Weymouth, Dorset, then there is Sarah R daughter aged 41 a Laundress, born Weymouth, Dorset, then Robert CADMAN son-in-law, aged 27 a Contractors? Clerk born Whitfield, Kent, then Margaret, CADMAN, daughter, aged 30 born Dover, Kent, then Clara CADMAN Granddaughter, aged 4 born Whitfield, Kent and then William CADMAN Grandson, aged 2 born Whitfield, Kent and then Louisa CADMAN Granddaughter aged 1 born Hougham, Kent and then Samuel HUNTER, nephew, aged 26 Joiner and Cabinet Maker born Weymouth, Dorset. This covers all the Census return for this family between 1841 and 1871 and a Chart needs to be put on to clarify what has been found. Then we find on the IGI Margaret Sarah Ellis HUNTER baptised 20th May 1831 St Mary the Virgin, Dover, Kent with parents John and Elizabeth. In the same batch with the same parents are Harriet Ann Miller HUNTER, baptised 6th November 1829, William James Milles (Miller?) HUNTER, baptised 6th March 1835 and Frederick George Hunter, baptised 8th May 1833. Even more details to add to chart, but it does confirm William and Frederick who appear to have been shown as James and George on the 1841 Census.
    Details of Elizabeth
1841 Census - Middle Row, St Mary, Dover, Kent. Right family but difficult to decide which Elizabeth is the one with John, I think it is the daughter and his wife is not at home. Exactly as shown is the following: John 45 Custom Officer not born Kent, Elizabeth 30 not born Kent, Sarah 20 not born Kent, Harriet 11 born Kent, Sarah 10 born Kent, George 8 born Kent and James 5 born Kent. This is most confusing and does not tie up with the children on the 1851 Census and we have two Sarah's etc etc.
1843 Newport, Isloe of Wight, Hampshire (address at marriage) Father John - a Customs Officer
1871 Census - 14 Chapel Place, St Mary, Dover, Kent. Elizabeth is shown as married but Thomas is not with her, only her daughter Elizabeth who married in 1873. Looking for the details on this Census I notice that there is an Elizabeth HUNTER born 1793 with a husband John who are in Dover but she was born in Weymouth, Dorset. If it was the Elizabeth's mother about she would have only been 18 when she had Elizabeth. Having looked at the actual census John who is 79 was also born in Weymouth Dorset, and is a Superannuated ??? Customs. There is also a daughter a Sarah HUNTER, aged 51 a Laundress, also born Weymouth, Dorset. I think that these are the parents of Elizabeth above and having found them on this Census, I might be able to go back to the previous ones and find more evidence that they are. Having now found this I have found a baptism for an Elizabeth HUNTER with parents John and Elizabeth on 29th September 1811 in Wyke Regis, Dorset. Again no maiden name given for the mother. Having looked on the Web, Wyke Regis is part of Weymouth, details are given as follows: Wyke Regis is one of the oldest parts of Weymouth and to the west is Chesil Beach and the fleet and to the east Weymouth Bay and Portland harbour. All Saints Church is the parish church. I therefore think that this is the correct person, BUT she is the only one that shows up, with no Sarah who I think was her younger sister. Then we are finally there with an IGI marriage from actual records for a John HUNTER married 28th June 1810 in Weymouth, Dorset, to a Elizabeth MILLER, so now definitely have to find the ROBERTS in Derbyshire.
  3. 1851 Census - 8 Last Lane, St Mary, Dover, Kent. There was a Sarah HUNTER, aged 32 unmarried, Sister-in-Law a dressmaker born Weymouth, Dorset with the family so confirming the surname of Elizabeth.
1861 Census - St Mary, Dover, Kent
1871 Census - 8 Chapel Place, Dover, Kent
1881 Census - Hartley Street, Hougham, Kent. All the children are ditto'd as Scholar, but I doubt if Tamer was.
I cannot find Tamer on the 1901 Census and cannot find a marriage in the period 1891 to 1901, but I looked for Tamar in Dover on the 1901 Census and only one comes up. This is a daughter born in 1888 to a Frederick DICKEN, aged 46 (so born about 1855) in Dover, Kent, so feel that he must be a brother of Sarah DICKEN above Frederick is Shoemaker, his wife is Rhoda and there are six other children other than Tamer.
IGI Baptism, the birth date is given on the same day as the baptism. Parents - Thomas and Elizabeth DICKEN
  4. IGI Baptism, the birth date is given on the same day as the baptism. Parents - Thomas and Elizabeth DICKEN
1871 Census - 6 Chapel Place, Dover, Kent. John was a lodger on this Census with a Nelson BURTON and family - Note Henry and Sarah COLYER were at number 8 Chapel Place, Dover, Kent, (next door but one)
  5. 1861 Census - St Mary, Dover, Kent
1871 Census - Tyler Hill Cottages, George Street, Buckland, Dover, Kent
1881 Census - 217 Portland Place, Hougham, Dover, Kent
  6. 1851 Census - 8 Last Lane, St Mary, Dover, Kent. There was a Sarah HUNTER, aged 32 unmarried, Sister-in-Law a dressmaker born Weymouth, Dorset with the family so confirming the surname of Elizabeth.
  7. 1861 Census - St Mary, Dover, Kent
1871 Census - "Invincible" "Vessels", Hull Roads
1881 Census - Cottage, St Margaret at Cliffe, Kent. They had a child Elizabeth aged 1 born Dover, Kent.
1891 Census - 128 Clarenden Sreet, Hougham, Dover, Kent. Children - Elizabeth 11 Scholar, born Dover, Edna E H 8 Scholar, born Dover, Emma P 5 Scholar, born Whitstable, Kent, William J. M. 5 months Dover, Kent
1901 Census - 38 Clarenden Street, Hougham, Dover, Kent. Children - Edna E 18 Dover, Kent, Emma V 15 Whitstable Kent, corset maker, William J 10 born Hougham, Kent, Alice S aged 5 Granddaughter, born Hougham, Kent.
Having found that William Samuel DICKEN married a Tamer who said she was born in Hull, I looked for the marriage between 1871 and 1881. The one that comes up is for a Tamer (Tawer on Ancestry.com) Miller HUNTER. She must be connected somehow to Elizabeth HUNTER above as one of the children above is a Tamer Miller Hunter DICKEN. Having found this I thought it would be easy to find Tamer born in Hull, but I was having no success, I then noticed on the Ancestry.com index a James M HUNTER on the 1851 Census aged 3 months and looking at the Census the James is really Tamer, so have found on the first census after she was born and therefore have found the names and birth places of her parents and sure enough her father Samuel Jell? HUNTER 25 was born in Weymouth, Dorset and his wife Edna I? was born in Dover, Kent. They were living at 6 Queens Place, Myton, Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire. He was an Extra Tide Waiter for Hull C. Tamer is down as 3 months old, born in Hull, Yorkshire. So we now have the connection with Weymouth and I must put all the information on above for a HUNTER Chart 0500 to see if I can fit Samuel in. I then looked at the IGI and found the baptism of Tamer as above. So her father is down as Samuel John Miller HUNTER and her mother Edna Emma. So continuing from that there were the following additional children after Tamer, three all baptised on 12th September 1858 William James, HUNTER, Edna Emma HUNTER and Samuel John HUNTER, then Elizabeth Sarah HUNTER, 6th January 1862, and finally Leonard William HUNTER 9th July 1865 all baptised at Holy Trinity, Hull.
  8. 1861 Census - St Mary, Dover, Kent
1881 Census - Bloucher? Street, Hougham, Dover, Kent
  9. 1861 Census - St Mary, Dover, Kent
1881 Census - Have to come back to this as I was not certain correct person, but I think Frederick is down as John on this Census
1891 Census - 111 Clarendon Street, Hougham, Dover, Kent

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
