In the same property there was an aunt, J J ROBERTS (66), an Annuitant born Roxton, Bedfordshire, and J MUBBURY (15), a servant born Cambridgeshire. (J J ROBERTS was Jane ROBERTS, formerly JACKSON née GEORGE, sister to James's mother Mary) 1890 8 & 9 Petty Curry, St Andrew the Great, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire (Will of Father) 1891 Pettybury, St Andrew the Great, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Kete S and Mary L, Georges sisters were with George and Eliza 1893 2 Petty Cury, St Andrew the Great, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire 1901 24 Caroline Road, St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. With his was a Corvie WORSLEY aged 26 a dressmaker own account born Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and a George F DELLER a Visitor aged 1 born Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. 1911 Mill Road, St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, Cambridgeshir 1932 20 Claribel Road, Brixton, Surrey (address given at probate) Note from Richard DOLMAN 22/6/2007 "In the 1901 census we find George Jackson DRING, Butcher, living with a boarder, a young woman with a child names George Jackson F DELLER. Could this child be George's son born illegitimately to someone not his wife? Although George states he is married his wife Eliza is not at home but possibly down in London on her own. (Not with any known relatives). Another unresolved situation is that in 1890 we find that George's father James Jackson DRING died earlier that year. A few months later we find a birth of one James Jackson DRING born in that same year. (Reference: James Jackson DRING born September quarter 1890 Cambridge District, Cambridgeshire Volume 3b page 473), then a death (James Jackson DRING died December quarter 1890 Cambridge District, Cambridgeshire Volume 3b page 329), Buying the birth certificate would resolve this query as to this being the son of George Jackson and Eliza DRING who died at a few months old. Other than daughter Dorothy DRING I have not found any additional children for this couple. Also no other children in the house of George DRING in the 1901 census other than the above named George Jackson F DELLER who is more than likely George's son, especially with that name." Resworn £874. 14s . 11d. Research continuing to trace marriage to Nellie Maud SHURROCKS, her death, and death of first wife. Information from Richard DOLMAN 14/8/2007 George Jackson DRING married Nellie M SHORROCKS in Cambridge in 1928 and shortly thereafter must have moved to Brixton in South London with Nellie where in 1929 he made his Will in her favour. Prior to this late marriage to Nellie M SHORROCKS in Cambridge we find two girls registered in the Birth register. From this we may assume that as George's wife Eliza Ellen had left him, George took another woman as a common law wife with whom he had at least two known daughters (as listed below). They were registered with the Registrar as though George and Nellie were married which gave them legitimacy on their birth certificates although in truth George and Nellie were not married. In 1928 George Married Nellie. It maybe possible that either there was a divorce or that Eliza his first wife had died, thus freeing George to remarry. We know from George's death that he and Nellie had moved to Brixton, (Lambeth registration area) and here George died in 1932. Two years later his widow Nellie remarried to one Albert E BENTLEY. This again in the Lambeth registration area. Living in same household as a Frederick ASLIN aged 33 a Pastrycook born Wandsworth, and his wife Ann, aged 31 born Reading, and also an Eliza KILLINGBECH down as Head a Widow aged 68 Living on own Means born Dover, Kent and her son William KILLINBECH aged 29 a Police Constable born Greenwich, Kent. Also a James DEAN down as Head aged 25 a Baker Bread, born Enfield. 1911 Norton Cucking, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Eliza Ellen is a Boarder with an Ann MOON aged 66 a Widow, Private Pensioner (Estate) born Warsop, Nottinghamshire and her son Albert MOON aged 29 Single an Engine Driver (Stationary Engine born Welbeck Nottinghamshire. There was another Boarder a Robert Charley BRINKLEY aged 24 a Shepherd Private Estate born Little Saham, Suffolk. Eliza Ellen is down as having been married 23 years and having had 2 children 1 of whom survives and 1 who has died at the date of this Census. Information from Richard DOLMAN 14/8/2007 On daughter Dorothy Nellie's birth certificate her mother's middle name is given as Helen 1891 91 York Street, St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire as Nelly 1901 91 York Street, St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Father Robert SHORROCKS aged 45 Fishmonger Porter born Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, Mother Lizzie aged 43 born Cambridge, Cambridgsrhie, then Nellie born Lambeth, Surrey and then siblings all born Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, Emma 13 a Domestic Nursery Girl, Gertrude 11, Mabel 9, Ethel 4 and Alfted 1 1911 Mill Road, St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Nellie is down as having been married 16 years and having had 1 child who survives at the date of this Census 1914 68 Victoria Road, Bromley, Kent (marriage) 1921 38 Balfour Road, Bromley, Kent (birth of Kathleen Gwen) 1952 115 Denmark Road, Camberwell, London (address given at probate) Information from Richard DOLMAN 14/8/2007 Notes for NELLIE MAUD SHORROCKS: A Nellie SHORROCKS is found living with her parents and family in Cambridge in the 1901 and 1891 census. All the family were born in Cambridge with the exception of Nellie. Age on census would indicate a year of birth of 1884 or 85. Only one Nellie found on Birth index in those years and also shown born in Lambeth. I am certain that this is the correct name. In the Will of George Jackson DRING he quotes Nellie's surname to be SHURROCKS but this is most likely an error by Solicitor's clerk and the correct spelling should be SHORROCKS 1901 68 Victoria Road, Chesterton, Cambridgeshire. Dorothy was with her grandparents William MUNNS aged 62 a Coppersmith and Brazier (own account) born Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and Maria MUNNS aged 58 born Newnham, Cambridgeshire In 1901 Dorothy’s mother had left her husband and was living with a Frederick ASPLIN At the time Dorothy would only have been 5....I know she was with her grandparents in 1901....but that was just one census night. Maybe Dorothy came to think of herself as an ASPLIN and did not find out her real name until she married in 1914? Taking into account the note above we believe that Dorothy put herself down as Dorothy ASPLIN on the 1911 Census 1911 Market Place, Ely, Cambridgeshire (down as Dorothy ASPLIN) was a servant - housemaid with a Harold ARCHER a Solicitor and his wife Sophia Eliza Little ARCHER and their family. There were three other servants. 1914 38 Balfour Road, Bromley, Kent (marriage) 1921 38 Balfour Road, Bromley, Kent (birth of Kathleen Gwen) 1911 Mill Road, St Andrew the Leas, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire They had a child William J BUTLER, b. Bet. April - June 1941, Banbury District, Oxfordshire
