(6 months on the 1911 Census)
Margate, Kent
  1. 1871 Census - St Thomas's Hill, St Dunstan, Kent
1881 Census - 12 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent
1891 census - 11 Florence Row, Margate, Kent. James is a Boarder but living next door to his parents and family. He was with a Elizabeth KNAPMAN a widow, a Laundress, aged 49 born Kingsdown, Kent, her daughter, niece and grandson. ( I did not enter full details of this family as James was only boarding with them, but on the BMD is appears that he possibly married a Henrietta KNAPMAN, I thought she might have been one of the people on this Census but she is not. The full list is Caroline KNAPMAN, aged 11, daughter, Ida PETERS, niece and James KNAPMAN, grandson.
1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent. It appears that James has taken over this property from his parents. Eliza is his wife so it confirms the marriage I have found. Chart to be added as there are seven children on this Census, one of them Henry is 12 and therefore was born before they married and as he does not appear with James on the 1891 Census I would think that he was not the father of this child. Perhaps Eliza had been married before, but I would not think so as her name on the BMD was KNAPMAN and James was living with a family of KNAPMAN's on the 1891 Census. Will look further into this when I put a Chart on for the family.
1911 Census - Not with family on 1911 Census, but Eliza down as married
  2. 1871 Census - 6 Kingsgate Station, St Peter the Apostle, Kent
1881 Census - 10 Coastguard Station Cottages. Parents of Eliza were George 48 a Coastguard Boatman, born Devonport, Devon, Elizabeth, his wife, 38 born Kingsdown, Kent, Elizabeth, aged 12 Scholar, born Kingsgate, Kent, then Eliza, then Frances 4 born Margate, Kent and Caroline 1 born Margate, Kent. This ties up with the 1891 Census where James is a boarder with an Elizabeth KNAPMAN and she had a daughter Caroline aged 11 with her. So he was with the mother of the person he married.  George and Elizabeth married in December quarter of 1859 in Thanet district, Kent. Her maiden name was TILTMAN.
1891 Census - Foley House, 8 Brewery Hill, Margate, Kent. Eliza was a Servant to a Howard W TRAVERS a Brewer, aged 36 born Cheam, Surrey. and his family. So this leaves the problem of Henry. He was not with James or Eliza on the 1891 Census, it also appears that he was not with he parent of either of them. I have, I think finally got there, on the BMD there is a James Henry KNAPMAN born in March quarter of 1889 in Thanet district, Kent. This therefore would be the child down as James KNAPMAN, grandson, living with Eliza's mother on the 1891 Census and where James Thomas FEDARB was lodging.
1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent.
1911 Census - 5 Park Place, Margate, Kent
  3. 1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent.
1911 Census - 5 Park Place, Margate, Kent. Down as Henry on this Census.
  4. 1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent.
  5. 1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent.
1911 Census - 5 Park Place, Margate, Kent
  6. 1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent.
1911 Census - 5 Park Place, Margate, Kent
  7. 1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent.
  8. 1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent.
  9. 1901 Census - 11 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent.
  10. 1911 Census - 5 Park Place, Margate, Kent
  11. 1911 Census - 5 Park Place, Margate, Kent
  12. 1911 Census - 5 Park Place, Margate, Kent

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SPELLING OF FEDARB VARIES ON THE BMD AND ON THE CENSUS RETURNS, ON ANCESTRY.COM IT IS BEST TO SEARCH WITH FED* BUT EVEN THEN THIS DOES NOT COVER ALL THE VARIATIONS. NORMALLY THIS IS ANCESTRY.COM's INTERPRETATON OF THE NAME, BUT IN MANY CASES EVEN LOOKING AT THE CENSUS IT DOES NOT APPEAR AS FEDARB. I THINK THE ENUMERATORS HAD A JOB DECIDING HOW TO SPELL IT.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
