  1. 1870 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA
  2. 1850 US Census - Pigeon Ward 8, Vanderburgh, Indiana, USA.
186o US Census - Butte, California, USA. There were two other people in the household. A Mary Ann SAUNDERS aged30 born England and a Him Took, aged 28 a Cook born China.
1870 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA
1880 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA
1900 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA. Down as being born in 1841 whereas she was born in 1839 but as her husband was quite a bit younger than she was she might have give incorrect age.
Details found on a Web Site about Sarah and her two husbands and family In the fall of 1863, Mr. and Mrs. Gambrel rode on horseback to Round Valley. Mrs. Gambrel was the first white woman to enter the valley. The Indians were hostile, and troops were stationed there. They located one hundred sixty acres and engaged in stock-raising. Mr. Gambrel died in Nevada about 1876. Mrs. Gambrel was later married to John O’Neil; and she died in Ukiah, in January, 1906.
Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gambrel: Lena, who is Mrs. Fred Faul; Edward, a hop-grower at Largo in Mendocino County; Charles, who resides in Oroville; Smith, who lives at Oro Vista; Mary Ann, who is Mrs. Frank Faul, and who has her home at Oroville. From the marriage Mrs. Gambrel and Mr. O’Neil three children were born: May, who is Mrs. Edsall, of Bly, Ore.; Esther, who is Mrs. McLaughlin, of Ukiah; and William P., who lives down on the Bay.
  3. 1880 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA
1900 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA (Down as born in Australia but parents born in Ireland.
  4. 1870 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA. Down as Lavinia on this Census, I think this was Lena on the Notes above
On another web site there is a biography of Fred FAUL, it appears that Lena and Fred had four children two of them died young.
1880 US Census - Ophir, Butte County, California, USA. Definitely correct as Frederick and Franklin are down as twins, they are with their parents and Lena (down as such and not Lavinia) is down as daughter-in-law. Had married down as 1878, so only 16 when she married, but no children on this Census.
1900 US Census - Ophir, Butte County, California, USA.
Have not found on US Census with family at present (now found on 1900 US Census with two children)  but the information shown in Note 2 continues about this family as follows, showing the Lena and Frederick had four children, two of which died young - Mrs. Fred Faul was educated at Covelo, in Mendocino County, and in her fifteenth year came to Butte County, where she married Mr. Faul. They have four children: Alvin, who is proprietor of the Deer Horn Barber Shop at Oroville and is married to Miss Maude Hutchinson of that city, and who is a Mason and an Odd Fellow; Charles, who is a Lieutenant in the Sixty-second Infantry, United States Army, and is serving with the American Expeditionary Forces over seas; Irene, who died when two and a half years old; and Clarence, who died in his sixteenth month.
Alvin appears on the 1920 Census as married to Maud as shown above she is five years older than him. I appears that her father James HUTCHINSON was with them. Maud was born in California. And in1930 they were still in Oroville, Butte County, California
  5. 1870 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA. Down as Edwin on this Census, I think this was Edward on the notes above.
1880 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA
1900 US Census - Sanel, Mendocino, California, USA. Edward was married to an Anna as shown, no children, but Anna must have been married before as there are two McGLASHEN children down as daughter-in-law, but age suggest they were step children of Edward, they were Fanny H aged 19 (November 1880 born Kentucky and Janie W aged 9 (July 1890) born California, with them was Marie L BENNETT who is down as mother-in-law, so I think Anna's maiden name would have been BENNETT unless the mother-in-law has more than one marriage. She is down as being 69 a widow born March 1831 in Kentucky.
1910 US Census - Sanel, Mendocino, California, USA.
1920 US Census - Sanel, Mendocino, California, USA.
1930 US Census - Sanel, Mendocino, California, USA.
  6. 1870 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA. Down as John on this Census, I think this was Charles on the notes above.
1880 US Census - Ophir, Butte, California, USA. (Charles (down as such) was down as a cousin on this Census with a Louis KISTER which would make this correct.
1910 US Census - Jasper Lane, Oregon, USA. Charles was a Servant on this Census, not married, I think correct as age right, born in California with father born in Virginia and mother in Indiana, which is all correct. He was with a William LOOK and family.
  7. 1870 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA.
1880 US Census - Ophir, Butte, California, USA. (Smith was with is Grandparents on this Census - John and Amy ONYETT)
1900 US Census - Hamilton, Butte County, California, USA
1910 - US Census - Oroville, Butte County, California, USA, two children on this Census. Gurney?/Garney F (son)aged 18 and Edith M aged 10 both born California, USA. (I think children were children of his wife May and not Smith's, see 1930 where Edith M down as May E on that census is down as a Step Daughter to Smith)
1920 - US Census - Oroville, Butte County, California, USA. Smith down as a widower, daughter with him Evelen M down as being 15 born California, - is this the same daughter who was 10 on the previous census?) (see 1930 Census)
(Again this still might need revising as above Smith on this Census there is a May E COLE aged 20 married to a Robert L COLE aged 22 so is would appear that there were indeed two daughters, the one on this Census aged 15 would therefore appear to be the actual daughter of Smith and his wife May.)
1930 - US Census - Oroville, Butte County, California, USA. May E COLE step daughter aged 30 born California was with him (so again I think this is the Edith M on the 1910 Census, the Evelen M on the 1920 and now down as May E on this Census) she was married to a Robert COLE aged 32 born California, USA a Machinist, Steam Railway and they had a child Alice G aged 8
  8. 1880 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA  (Down as stepdaughter and as Anna)
It appears that Mary Ann GAMBREL married Frank G FAUL who was a twin brother of Fred Edward FAUL who married Lena GAMBREL
1900 US Census - Honcut, Butte County, California, USA. Five children on this Census. Willie E, May 1890, Frankie E July 1892 (daughter), Henry, February 1894, Rachel L, July 1896 and Ruth J, also July 1896
1910 US Census - Ophir, Butte County, California, USA
1920 US Census - Ophir, Butte County, California, USA
1930 US Census - Ophir, Butte County, California, USA
  9. 1880 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA (Down as Peter, I had William P so I think this is this child, he was six years old
1900 US Census - Mendocino State Hospital, Ukiah, Mendocino, California. Do not know if he was in hospital as a patient or as an employee, he is down as a son but not of the person above him, he is also down as an Attendant which a lot of the other people on the page are also, so this suggests he was an employee.
1920 US Census - San Francisco, California, USA. no children on this Census.
  10. 1880 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA (It appears as Milla M so I think this is this child she was four year old)
1900 US Census - Round Valley, Mendocino, California, USA (Three children on this Census - Arlet C 4, J Dewey 2 and Margery 5 months, all born California.
1910 US Census - Spraque River, Klameth, Oregon, USA
1920 US Census - Spraque River, Klameth, Oregon, USA. Brother Thomas was with them.
1930 US Census - Klameth Falls, Klameth, Oregon, USA
  11. I cannot find Esther on a Census at the present time, see Note 2. Some problem with ages of children as I have Smith GAMBRELL's death as 1876 but on the 1880 Census Peter was born in 1874 as O'NEIL so possibly something is incorrect.
1910 Census  - Ukiah, Mendocino, California, USA. (Certain this is correct person but is down as LAUGHLIN not McLAUGHLIN as biography of Fred Edward FAUL suggests. It would appear that Esther had been married before as there is a Ana MONTAGUE aged 7 down as a step daughter, born California. There is also a James H LAUGHLIN Jr aged 3 born California,

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
