  6. Family legend has it that Edward Philip was a coastguard at Bishopstone, Herne Bay/Reculver after retiring as a sailor and was said to have come from Jersey.
According to Census Returns and the registration of his death, Edward Philip was most likely to have been born in 1846. His place of birth is said by descendents to have been Jersey, and this was also stated on the Census Returns. However, there seems to be no record of the birth or baptism of an Edward Jolin on Jersey around that time. The only Edward Jolin found born around that time in Britain as a whole was an Edward Jolin born in Dorset in 1846, the son of Maria Jolin, the widow of James Jolin, dyer, of Poole - SEE SEPARATE DETAILS ON JAMES JOLIN AND MARIA NEWMAN . I have found no baptism or registration entry for his birth, but he appears in the:
1851 Prosperous Place, Pool, Dorset.  This Edward was an orphan by this time and he and his sister Maria Jane age 9 were living with their half-sister Louisa Newman in Poole. . Louisa had a daughter Maria aged 1 born Blandford, Dorset
    1874 - marriage certificate -
1877 - baptisms of 1st and 2nd children, residence and occupation recorded as Tilbury, coastguard.
1881 Census - 1 Griffin Street, Deal, Kent
1891 Coastguard Station Herne, Herne Bay, Kent
1901 No 1 Bak Villas, Herne Bay, Kent.
  7. 1841 Census - Market Street, Poole, Dorset. (down as BILLETT on this Census)
1851 Prosperous Place, Pool, Dorset. Louisa had a daughter Maria aged 1 born Blandford, Dorset. With her were Maria and Edward down as sister and brother
  8. 1841 Census - Market Street, Poole, Dorset

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
