1891 There is also a Walter KING correct aged and living in Kingston, Surrey and born in Bethnal Green who is down as single and it at the The Barracks 31st Regimental District on Thames as a Private East Surrey Regiment. This seems to suggest it is the same person as he was down as a Soldier on the marriage certificate, but the marriage took place before the Census. (As with everything else on this chart it is all open to queries)

1895 54 Danby Street, Denmark Park, Denmark Hill, Southwark, London. (baptism of Annie Sophia (definitely correct person but mother down as Louisa)

We have had a lot of problems with this chart as it would appear marriages took place before spouses died, but of course they could have divorced and then remarried when both of their new partners died. Have now found actual marriage of Walter to Frances COSTELLO and the father of WALTER is down as Charles KING Labourer whereas the Walter that Isabella married, his father is down as William KING - Groom. It is definitely the correct first marriage, and also everything else is correct, so perhaps there are two Walter KING's and everything is legitimate.
Walter KING (1) married Isabella Jane FENTIMAN in 1891, Walter KING (1) either died or he had been married before and the marriage was annulled,
as he was in the Army and put down late in the same year that he was single, and on marriage to Frances COSTELLO he says he was a Bachelor.
Isabella Jane married again in 1896 as Isabella Jane FENTIMAN to Joseph Thomas STAPLEY, he died 1899
Walter KING (2) married Frances Mary Matilda COSTELLO in 1893 she died 1904
Walter KING (2) then married Isabella Jane STAPLEY née FENTIMAN in around 1907 (1911 said they had been married four years) but cannot find a marriage that fits. (This is the marriage I really need to find) I have tried all alternatives, Isabella or Jane and surnames as FENTIMAN, STAPLEY or KING.

I sent this chart to my sister to see what she thought, she writes:
    My tentative ideas...
I wondered....when he married Isabella in 1891 he was a soldier – I believe soldiers have to get permission to marry. Perhaps he did not and so was told his marriage was not valid. Isabella would have been devastated perhaps so maybe went home to Mum. Walter met Frances a couple of years later...and as his first marriage was not allowed considered himself to be a bachelor. (Doesn’t explain different names for father). By 1901 he had 4 children but Frances died in 1902/1904 when the youngest child Richard would only have been between 3 and 5 years old. In the meantime Isabella had married using the name FENTIMAN not KING because her first marriage was not allowed so she was still a FENTIMAN, and then she became a widow. After his wife’s death somehow Walter and Isabella met up again and by 1907 were living together with the children from his marriage to Frances – or – as he said on the 1911 they had been married 4 years perhaps they married somewhere other than the UK just in case there were problems again.

There is a baptism on 10th December 1899 at St Mary the Less, Lambeth, London of a Harriet Frances KING with parents Walter and Frances and living at 137 Princes Road, Lambeth, London, with Walter's occupation given as Horsekeeper. I would think a child of this couple, but the baptism is near to the birth of Richard and she does not appear with rest of family on 1901 Census and I cannot find a death for her at present.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
