  1. 1841 Census - Poxwell, Dorset. The only other occupant of the property was a Mary PLAYER, aged 70, Charles is down as being 20, although he was 23 as aged tended to round up or down to the nearest five years on this Census, so I would think that Mary was younger than 70 and possibly the mother of Charles. This would possibly mean that Mary's husband had died and Charles was the youngest of the children of the family.
1861 Poxwell, Dorset, Charles PLAYER aged 43 Ag Lab born Poxwell, Dorsetshire, Maria PLAY aged 42 Ag Lab born Cheselborne, Dorsetshire, John PLAY aged 18 Agricultural Labourer born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Ellen PLAY aged 14 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Maria PLAYER aged 8 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Thomas PLAYER aged 5 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire.

1861 Poxwell, Dorset, Charles PLAYER aged 43 Ag Lab born Poxwell, Dorsetshire, Maria PLAY aged 42 Ag Lab born Cheselborne, Dorsetshire, John PLAY aged 18 Agricultural Labourer born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Ellen PLAY aged 14 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Maria PLAYER aged 8 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Thomas PLAYER aged 5 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire.
  4. 1851 Census - Poxwell, Dorset
1861 Poxwell, Dorset, Charles PLAYER aged 43 Ag Lab born Poxwell, Dorsetshire, Maria PLAY aged 42 Ag Lab born Cheselborne, Dorsetshire, John PLAY aged 18 Agricultural Labourer born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Ellen PLAY aged 14 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Maria PLAYER aged 8 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire, Thomas PLAYER aged 5 Scholar born Poxwell, Derbyshire.

1871 Census - Poxwell, Dorset. On this Census is an Annie PLAYER down as daughter, but I think it is the daughter of Ellen as on the 1881 Census there is an Annie WHITE aged 11 with Maria, and Ellen married a George WHITE but not until 1872.
1881 Census - East Burton, Winfrith Newburgh, Dorset. Maria is down as Mary, she also appear as Maria Mary on the IGI baptism. She is born in Poxwell, and the BMD married ties up, so certain correct person. I had also found a marriage for Ellen to a George WHITE but is does not show Poxwell as the birth place but with Maria on this census is a Anne P WHITE, niece born Poxwell, so I think that this marriage will also be correct. However on the 1881 Census there are two Ellen WHITE's and both are down as being born in 1848 in various places in Dorset, so I do not know which is correct. On this Census Maria and George had four children, two born in Poxwell, one in East Lulworth and one in East Burton. They were Alfred 8, (Poxwell), Scholar, Thomas G 5, (Poxwell), Scholar, Charles T 4 (East Lulworth) Scholar and William 3 months, (East Burton).

1871 Census - Poxwell, Dorset. On this Census is an Annie PLAYER down as daughter, but I think it is the daughter of Ellen as on the 1881 Census there is an Annie WHITE aged 11 with Maria, and Ellen married a George WHITE but not until 1872.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
