Obituary, Savannah Reporter, 8 February 1935, O. V. SELLS FUNERAL TUESDAY AFTERNOON, He Was a Factor in Community Affairs Here Forty Years--Conscientious, Energetic
The funeral of O. V. Sells was held Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Savannah at 3 o'clock in charge of a former pastor, Rev. F. O. Sanders of Springfield, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Fred B. Kinell. Rev. Sanders took for his subject text, Revelations 14:13. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours, and their works do follow them." Burial was in the Savannah Cemetery.
The music was by a quartet composed of Mrs. O. H. Clark, W. E. Townsend, and Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Sparks, with Mrs. Roy Nicholas, pianist. The pallbearers wer Superintendent R. J. Westfall, W. H. Clasbey, Virgil Henderson, F. H. Hardin, Lant Hall, and E. E. Townsend. The flower bearers were Wilbur Sparks, Jean Stanton, Merlin Imus, and Royal Turner.
Mr. Sells has been actively identified with the affairs of the county ever since he began as a young rural teacher about forty-five years ago. He has occupied many positions of trust and honor and he labored interestedly and conscientiously for those enterprises he thought for community betterment. For twenty years he was director and secretary of the Andrew County Mutual Telephone Company and was an asset in its advancement. He was superintendent of the First Baptist Church Sunday School, chairman of the board of deacons and treasurer of the church for many years. He was president of the Andrew County Bank several years, a member of the Savannah Board of Education several years, and many other community efforts might be named. Mr. Sells was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Savannah, a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, and the Savannah I.O.O.F.
Orliff Vincent Sells, the eldest son of James P. and Mary Jane Joy Sells, early settlers in Andrew County from Ohio, was born October 22, 1871, in the northern part of Andrew County. He attended high school in Savannah and later taught school in the county. On January 3, 1898, he was married to his school friend, Miss Alice Louise Cobb, and to this union five children were born. Vincent Amos, Harold Franklin, Raymond Hartley, O. V., Jr., and one daughter, Margaret, now Mrs. J. O. Keller. Mrs. Sells passed away March 15, 1922. The children were kept in the home and ably taken care of by the father and since 1927 he has been assisted in caring for them by the second Mrs. Sells, who was before her marriage October 26, 1927, Miss Mary Duff. For the past two years Mr. Sells has not been enjoying the best of health and on Sunday morning, Feb. 3, 1935, he suffered a stroke of paralysis and passed away at his home in North Savannah, at the age of 63 years, 3 months, and 11 days. He is survived by his wife, five children, three grandchildren, two brothers, C. L. Sells of St. Joseph and Frank Sells of Denver, Colo., one sister, Mrs. Maggie Auble of Winslow, Arizona, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
