A headstone still lays in St Botolph Church with the following inscription, which covers a lot of the information of this Chart. It reads: In Memory of Mary, wife of Mr Thomas Stedman of this parish who died December 24th 1812 aged 27 years. Also Thomas Stedman, died 9th August 1849 aged 71 years. Margaret, daughter, aged 3 died 11th December 1814, Joseph died in infancy, William off the coast of Africa, Charlotte his second wife 1st May 1861 aged 72 years. This with the parish registers to be found in the Kent Record Office at Maidstone gives us a fairly accurate picture of this family. We assume that Joseph who we found was baptised on 22nd December 1814 to be a child of Charlotte as Thomas’s first wife Mary had died by this time.
IGI - A Thomas STEDMAN married a Mary DENTON on 3rd January 1805 at Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Milton by Gravesend, Kent. This could be this marriage. Cannot find a marriage in St Botolph, Northfleet, Kent for which I have a CD disc of the records. Saint Peter and Saint Paul would have been one of the nearest Parish churches to Northfleet.

  4. 1841 Barracks Field, Northfleet, Kent
1849-1850 Leather Bottle Lane, Northfleet, Kent
1851 Census - Leather Bottle Lane, Northfleet, Kent
1861 Census - Prudention Cottage, Northfleet, Kent
1871 - Thomas and Elizabeth had a niece Ann aged 9, born Northfleet, staying with them on the night of the census. On the 1871 Census Elizabeth gave her place of birth as Aston, Kent.
In the Gravesend Kelly’s Directory for 1849/50, Thomas STEDMAN is given as Bricklayer, Leather Bottle Lane, Northfleet. This Thomas is the most likely.
  5. 1841 Census - Barrack Field, Northfleet, Kent.
1851 Census - 5 Tabor Place, Northfleet, Kent (Ancestry.com shows them as Hedman, but it is definitely Stedman (see Note 2)
1861 Census  - Tabor Place, Northfleet, Kent
IGI - I think this is the correct marriage, although details are taken from the the IGI. There is no marriage in the St Botolph, Northfleet, Kent records for this marriage, so I think as Sutton-at-Hone was nearby I would think this is the most likely one. If incorrect the date of marriage and the maiden name of Sarah will be incorrect.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
