    Information from Geoffrey STEMP
    On the second November 1914 George Alfred enlisted in the Army, joining the Lancashire Fusiliers, 9th Battalion. His rank stayed that of a Private 9343 STEMP sir! He saw action overseas in 1916-1917 getting wounded, shot in the leg. He was entitled to the 1914-15 Star. On the first of January 1919 he was demobilsed at Preston, taking up the profession of an Iron Turner in the textile industry until his death.

    Marriage date given on discharge papers, but no wife's name, but son Ralph mentioned with birth date given as 26th October 1915. There is a lot of information for Frank on his discharge papers, it appears he suffered from Malaria and there are several pages of notes of where he was treated.

    1924 US Passport Application. Residence Owatonna, Steele, Minnesota, gives Father as Thomas STEMP birth place England and he is deceased. Fred gives his  birth date as 7th March 1892 but I believe he was born in 1891 and his birth place at Oldham, Lancashire and aged 32. He says he emigrated to the United States, sailing from Liverpool England on 26th June 1914 and this he has resided nine uninterrupted years in the United States from 1914 to 1924 at Tracy, Spring ??? and Owatonna, Minnesota and that he was naturalized as a citizen of the United States before the District Court of Lyon County, Marshal, Minnesota on November 17th 1919 and he is asking for a passport to visit England to visit Relatives departing from Montreal Canada on the "Montclare" on 23rd May 1924 (unfortunately although most of the passport applications both sides of Fred have a photo attached, there is no photograph of him)
