(Hannah CHARMAN was William's and George's sister 1855 Wonersh, Surrey (at marriage) 1861 Ruffolds, Cranley, Surrey. Living with them was William TANNER (14) and Mary Ann TANNER (10) both born Cranley, son and daughter-in-law.(actually step son and step daughter) 1871 1 Mount Pleasant, Cranleigh, Surrey. Living with them were son-in-law (actually step- son) William TANNER (24) Ag Lab born Cranley, Surrey and (step-daughter) Mary Ann LEE (20) and her husband William LEE (26) both born Cranley, Surrey. Living next door were George (b1795) and Elizabeth STEMP (George was the son of Georgeand Elizabeth TANNER) and next door to them was George's brother William (b.1806) and his wife Emily TANNER. George and William were brothers of this William's father James 1847 Cranley, Surrey (baptism of William) 1855 Wonersh, Surrey (at marriage) Father John TANNER - Labourer 1861 Ruffolds, Cranley, Surrey, with son-in-law and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Ann TANNER, age 14 and 10, both born in Cranley, Surrey. Living with them were Caroline's children William and Mary Ann TANNER described as son-in-law and daughter-in law 1871 1 Mount Pleasant, Cranleigh, Surrey. Living with them were son-in-law (actually step-son) William TANNER (24) Ag Lab born Cranley, Surrey and (step-daughter) Mary Ann LEE (20) and her husband William LEE (26) both born Cranley, Surrey 1847 Cranley, Surrey (baptism of William) Mother Caroline (Illegtimate son of) 1851 Roughfold, Cranley, Hambledon, Surrey. Living, together with his mother Caroline, with her parents and family. Grandfather John TANNER (58) Ag Labr, grandmother Mary (58), their children mother Caroline (24), Charles (23) Ag Labourer, Harriet (21) and Charlotte (12) as well as William (4) everyone born Cranley, Surrey 1861 Ruffolds, Cranley, Surrey. Living, together with his sister with their mother and her husband William STEMP. They are shown as son and daughter in law but were step children 1871 1 Mount Pleasant, Cranleigh, Surrey. Living, as son in law, with his step father and mother. Also living with them was his sister Mary Ann LEE (20) and her husband William LEE (26) both born Cranley, Surrey 1878 Horsebloth? Hollow, Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Frank) 1881 Village, Ewhurst, Surrey - Census and BMD - As is appears that William TANNER's parents died between 1871 and 1881 I looked for William on the 1881 Census. There is just the one name that comes up for a William TANNER born 1847 +/- 2 years in Cranleigh Surrey. It says he was born in 1849, so it is possible. On the BMD three William TANNER's come up for the Hambledon district for a marriage but only one of these comes up with a spouse with the name Ellen as the 1881 Census. As Hambledon covers a large area, and the 1881 Census only gives one who was born in Cranleigh, I feel I have the right person. William was 32, born Cranleigh, Surrey, an Ag Lab, Ellen was 28 born Ewhurst, Surrey. 1888 Plough, Ewhurst, Surrey (baptism of Nellie Beatrice) 1891 Plough Cottage, Ewhurst, Surrey 1901 Village, Ewhurst Surrey (Ancestry.com has the family down as TAMM) Information from John TERRY's web site 9/8/2016 As is appears that William TANNER's parents died between 1871 and 1881 I looked for William on the 1881 Census. Living, together with her husband William LEE, with Mary Ann's parents William and Caroline STEMP, as well as William TANNER brother entered as son-in-law (but was actually step-son) 1873 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Alice Mary) 1875 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Caroline) 1877 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Robert John) 1879 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of William) 1880 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Albert) 1881 Little Mannings Hill, Cranleigh, Surrey. Living with them was Mary TANNER (89) Mary Ann'e Grandmother born Cranleigh, Surrey and visiting was Ann STEDMAN (40) Unmarried born Cranleigh, Surrey 1883 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Harry) 1885 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Ellen Louisa) 1887 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Ada Elizabeth) 1890 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of George) 1891 Census - Little Mannings Hill, Cranleigh, Surrey 1901 Census - Little Mannings Hill, Cranleigh, Surrey 1911 Little Mannings Hill, Cranleigh, Surrey. A visitor was Emily EDWARDS (17) born Ashtead, Surrey. On the 1911 census Mary Ann is shown as having been married 42 years and having had 10 children, 9 still living and i had died. 1919 Mannings Hill, Cranleigh, Surrey (address at burial)
