    Notes
A David PARSONS sent the information about John STEMP and his descendants to Margaret JARVIS. David said John was baptised in 1808 in Abinger, son of Henry and Maria STEMP. I have not searched the original parish registers, but there is no entry for this John in the transcript of the registers issued by the West Surrey Family History Society which was taken from that originally published by the Surrey Record Society in 1927. He also sent the information that the family lived at Hopedean Lodge, Holmbury St Mary, Surrey
Other details sent by David PARSONs have been shown to be inaccurate (names, order and birth dates for children of this John STEMP for example). Therefore any information for all the descendants of this John STEMP, which does not show a source either from a parish register, or from Margaret JARVIS, should be treated as "provisional" and checked with an original source.
However, although there are doubts about the information it has been added until further clarification can be obtained.

Information that James was born 1834 and that he married Rachel WESTCOTT was sent to us. We have not been able to find this marriage
On the 1871 census there is a Rachel, widow Age 47 (so born about 1824). However, she has a son John aged 24 so born 1847 and there is a birth registration in March 1846 which could belong to him. This makes James 12 years old when John was born. John is an additional child to those we were sent,
We have subsequently discovered that the James who married a Rachel - a Rachel WILKINS not WESTCOTT - was born 1813-1816 in Cranley, Surrey so not this James.
We have details for James, Rachel and their children but at present we have not been able to identify the correct James.
  7. 1836 Abinger, Surrey (baptism of Anne)
1841 Castle Cottage, Abinger, Surrey. With them was a James BURDEN aged 20 born Surrey
1851 Census - Waterland, Abinger, Surrey.

    1871 Friday Street, Warnham, Surrey
1881 Upper Chickens Cottage, Warnham, Sussex
1891 17 Trafalgar Road, Horsham, Sussex. With the family was an Ernest J CHAPMAN a Nurse Child born Horsham, Sussex
1901 32 Trafalgar Road, Horsham, Sussex.
1911 12 Swidon Rd Horsham Sussex. With Ann is John SHORT as son and Ernest SHORT as Grandson, but they also appear at their home address.
    Note concerning marriage of Ann
A marriage register shows the father of an Ann STEMP marrying James CUMBER as John STEMP so we originally had this Ann, the daughter of John and Elizabeth STEMP as the bride of James. However, we were concerned because so much of the information connected to this Ann did not match her age and place of birth and her age at death showed a difference of ten years.
Other than the father's name on the marriage certificate all the other details of her life after she married indicate that the Ann who married James CUMBER was actually the daughter of George STEMP. Details on census returns which suggest this include her age, and the places given for where she was born. She also lived in Shalford which is in the same district as Cranleigh where she was born and the death date we have for Ann CUMBER gives are correct age.
Subsequently, information was found on a Family Tree on ancestry which showed that this Anne, with father John, had married a John SHORT

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
