Charles H WHEATON was known as one of the best judges and successful buyers of stock in Huron County. He had purchased cattle since he was fourteen years old and was thought to have bought more than any other buyer in the country. He was born in England and was eleven years when he accompanied his father to the United States, where he finished his education. He stayed at home with his parents until 1861, when he enlisted for three months’ service as a member of Captain Sawyer’s Independent company organized under the laws of the state of Ohio. When his period of service was finished, he returned home and with his brother, Dennis E WHEATON, took charge of his father’s meat business, which they carried on for many years until the block was destroyed by fire. The brothers then went to Cleveland, where they carried on the same kind of work for seventeen years, before Charles returned to his old home to take care of his father and his father’s estate. The fine brick house which the latter erected still stands upon the place and is in excellent condition.
It is said that his life was one of continuous activity, and his success was brought about by his industry and energy. Charles did not belong to a political party, preferring to support men who were working for what he considered was “the public good”. His high rank among his contempories was attributed to his loyalty to America, his great material success and “his honorable manhood and true personal worth”.
    From “The Fireside Pioneer”
Charles H WHEATON and his wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving day, Thursday, 25th November 1920, at their home on the Old State Road, Norwalk township. Many relatives attended the event to honour the man his friends considered “genial, wholesouled and very popular.”
Charles had been born in England, but his wife, Anna "Annie" Lydia WHEATON, daughter of Agur Breach HOYT, was born in America.
Living with them in their home was their daughter, Mary Walter E BATTLES, her husband and two children.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
