DACKOMBE FAMILY
The Crests of the Dackombe's

On the left is the Dackombe crest.

The Dackombe family Arms has been recorded on various pedigrees. Their orignal and proper coad was: VERT A GRIFFIN ARGENT (A Silver Griffin Upright on a Green Field); despite a search undertaken by The College of Arms, London, it has not been possible to establish when these arms were either granted of assumed.

The Dackombe family Arms have been recorded on various pedigrees. Their original and proper coat was: VERT A GRIFFIN ARGENT (A Silver Griffin Upright on a Green Field); despite a search undertaken by The College of Arms, London, it has not been possible to establish when these arms were either granted or 'assumed'/ What does seem probable is that when Thomas Dackombe married Agness De Stepleton he assumed her family's arms: Or Three Steeples Azure (Three Blue Steeples on a Gold Field); these were later quartered to reflect marriages in that branch of the family but subsequently, the proper coat was resumed. A Thomas Dackombe (Dacombe) of Stepleton was Sherriff of Dorset and Somerset 22.12.1397 and the Arms stated are the original. Later branches of the family showed further quarterings particularly Corfe Castle.

The Crest is interesting: An Oak Tree Proper Fructed Or (An Oak Tree with Gold Acorns) with the motto: VIRTUTIS ROBART ROBOR; this motto has been prone to nonsensical spelling but loosely translates 'STRONG IN VIRTUES STRENGTH'.
