Charles
HOBSON
  1. 1846 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Essex
1847 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Essex (birth of Jessie Sophia)
1847  2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex. (baptism of Jessie Sophia) address appears as 2 Harrods Place, Well? Close Square, Wapping,
1851 - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex (baptism of Griselda Susan)
1854 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Essex (Paulina Octavia baptism) The address on the baptism appears to be 2 Harrods Place, Well Close Square, Wapping, Essex
According to his granddaughter, Francis went to Australia in 1868/1871. However, from the birth of his children, and that his wife is shown as a widow on the 1851 census it would seem that he had left this country before that date?
  2. 1841 Harrods Place or Alley, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
1846 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Essex
1847 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Essex (birth of Jessie Sophia)
1847 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex. (baptism of Jessie Sophia) address appears as 2 Harrods Place, Well? Close Square, Wapping,
1851 Census - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex.
1851 - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex (baptism of Griselda Susan)
1859 - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex (at second marriage)
1861 Census - Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. (and so it gets more complicated) Elizabeth appears to have married again which is OK, but there is a daughter Pauline GRAY born about 1856 in Wapping, Middlesex, so we do not know the father of this child.  There are two Head of Households, the first is a Dennis KEARNEY who is from Limerick Ireland and then there is James WHITEHOUSE, about about 1824 a Seaman MS?, born Staffordshire, then Elizabeth WHITEHOUSE, aged 34 a Laundress, born Dover, Kent, then Jessie P GRAY, aged 14 a Laundress, born Wapping, Middlesex and then as I have said Pauline GRAY, aged 5 also born Wapping, Middlesex.
1862 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. (at baptism of Susan Emily WHITEHOUSE)
1871 Census - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. Elizabeth is again a widow on this Census. Aged 44 again down as being born in Dover, Kent, she is a Laundress, with her is Pauline O GRAY, aged 17 a Pupil Teacher, born Wapping, Middlesex and Susan E WHITEHOUSE, daughter aged 8 a Scholar, born Wapping, Middlesex (the Chart which I have to put on gets more and more complicated)
1881 Census - Laundry, Main Street, West Hallam, Derbyshire. It appears that Elizabeth has moved to Derbyshire, aged 54 a Laundress, born Dover, Kent, her daughter Susan E WHITEHOUSE, unmarried aged 18 a Laundress, born St John's Wapping, Middlesex
1891 Census - Portland Street, Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Elizabeth is a Boarder with a Clare (Male) MORLEY a Cellarman at a Brewery, and his wife Jane. Elizabeth is again down as being born in Dover and is still a Laundress.
1901 Census - 112 Arthur Street, Derby, Derbyshire. It appears that Elizabeth's daughter Susan has married a Charles HOBSON, who is 41 a Builder's Foreman born West Hallam, Derbyshire. They have three children, Charles, aged 13, Emily 6 and Hilda 3 and living with them is Elizabeth WHITEHOUSE, a Retired Laundress (Wash) born Dover, Kent. I think Susan was married to Charles HOBSON in the March quarter of 1887 in the Basford district of Derbyshire. Only one male name comes up on the BMD so I cannot be certain, but searching all the names in that quarter of 1887 Charles HOBSON is there.
  3. 1859 - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex (at marriage) Father Joseph WHITEHOUSE - Contractor
1861 Census - Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex.
1862 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. (at baptism of Susan Emily WHITEHOUSE)
1859 UK and Ireland, Master and Mates Certificates
(this was after marriage to Elizabeth (please continue reading notes)

Then in 1878 probate is shown for James Theodore WHITEHOUSE who died 1st March 1864 BUT it shows him as a Bachelor but certain correct person
1878 WHITEHOUSE James Theodore (personal Estate under £200. 13 April. Administration of the Personal Estate of James Theodore Whitehouse late of Wolverhampton in the COunty of Stafford merchant Seaman a Bachelor who died 1 March 1864 at Calcutta in the East Indies was granted at Lichfield to Susanah Whitehouse of Ash-street Wolverhampton Widow the Administratrix of the Personal Estate of Joseph Whitehouse the Father and Next of Kin.
  4. 1847 - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex. (birth of Jessie Sophia)
1847 - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex. (baptism of Jessie Sophia) address appears as 2 Harrods Place, Well? Close Square, Wapping,
1851 Census - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex.
1861 Census - Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex.
    1864 2 Harrod's Place, Wapping, Middlesex
1867 1 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex (baptism of Albert Edward)
1869 1 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex (baptism of Jessie)
1871 17 Monkton Cottages, Ramsgate, Kent
1872 Monkton Cottages, Ramsgate, Kent (baptism of Theodore)

1884 Garden Street, Bermondsey, Surrey (baptism of Richard)
1891 28 Lethington Street, Rotherhithe, Surrey. Boarding with them was John R TEMPLAR RYE(?), Age 54 Widower, Shoemaker born Limehouse, Middlesex
Thomas was not with the family.
1901 7 Morris Cl, Horseley Down, London. Living with them was Georgina JONES, (5) granddaughter and William ALLFORTH (36)  Nephew, Water? Labourer? both born Bermondsey, London. Also in the property were two lodgers, John JONES, (38) Single, Carman born Wales, and John KERSHAW (23)
Single, Waterside Labourer born Bermondsey, London. Thomas was not with the family
These witnesses are the Aunt and Uncle of Jessie, Susan being the sister of Elizabeth MUNNS.
1911 164 Wolseley Buildings, Bermondsey, Surrey. Shown as just "Jessie Sophia". Entered as wife of William ALLFORTH (43) Waterside Labourer born Queen Street, Rotherhithe, Surrey. He is shown as being married 14 years (See 1891 census)
  5. 1851 Census - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex.
1851 Census - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex. (at baptism) On the 1851 this child appears as Susan on the baptism it is Griselda Susan.
  6. 1854 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Essex (Paulina Octavia baptism) The address on the baptism appears to be 2 Harrods Place, Well Close Square, Wapping, Essex.
There was a doubt about the father of Paulina but the baptism shows the father at Francis so I have now put her with the rest of the family.
1861 Census - Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex.
    1871 Census - No found
1881 South Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. - I had found the marriage in Note 15 and then found a Paulina FROST born Wapping in 1856, so it must be the right person. When I opened the Census I found that there were six children in a range of ages from 19 to 2, so there could not all be the children of Paulina. The age of William is 46, Paulina is 26. From this William must have been married before. I then search the 1871 Census for a William FROST born in Bocking and found that William's first wife was a Lucy. She was 34 and born in Higham, Leicestershire. They had five children on this Census.
    Marriage details from BMD
1891 Census - 2 Market Place, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. With the family was a Dorothy WELLS, a widow, aged 87 born Higham, Leicestershire. She is down as Mother-in-Law. I am sure it would be the mother of Lucy, so have added this as her maiden name until we can prove otherwise. (Now told that the maiden name was CANAL so possibly it was Dorothy WELLS second marriage.
1901 34 Dale Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire
1911 Census - 32 Gregory St Ilkeston, Derbyshire, With Paulina and her daughter were two boarders, Percy John COMPTON, born 1884 an Ironmonger born Bowerchalk, Wiltshire and Arthur John BROWN born 1888 a Pawnbroker born Burton on Trent, Staffordshire
  7. 1862 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. (at baptism)
1871 Census - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex.
1881 Census - Laundry, Main Street, West Hallam, Derbyshire.
1891 Census - 22 Clover Street, St Alkmund, Derbyshire.
1901 Census - 112 Arthur Street, Derby, Derbyshire.
1911 Census - 112 Arthur Street Derby, Derbyshire

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
