  1. 1851 Census - Shere, Surrey
  2. 1841 Census - Jesseys, Shere, Surrey
  3. IGI Baptisms for James from actual records and the birth and baptised dates are the same.
  4. 1881 Census - Smoky Hole, Shere, Surrey, Lucy was with her son James and his wife Ann and their daughter Emelie (Emily) on this Census.
  5. 1861 Census - Shere, Surrey. There was also Ann's mother Dorothy MANSELL, aged 80 born Hampshire, a Pauper with the family.
  6. 1871 Census - Smoky Hole, Shere, Surrey. Four children on this Census.
  7. 1901 Census - Lane End, Shere, Surrey. James is in the next property to his youngest sibling John on this Census. He is with a family called GEAVETT but I can see no relationship with this family, the wife is a Mary and born in Petworth, so definitely not his sibling Mary above.
  8. 1891 Census - Smoky Hole, Shere, Surrey. - Had a job finding this on the Census. Shere not spelt correctly. With the family was a George TICKNER, grandson, aged 10 a Scholar, born Shere, Surrey,  so will have to try and find where he belongs, there is also a Joseph MANSELL, a boarder aged 30 a Farm Labourer born Shere, Surrey who I think would be connected as that was the maiden name of James' wife Ann.
  9. IGI marriage details, extracted from actual records
  10. IGI baptism details, extracted from actual records
  11. IGI baptism, submitted by a member of the LDS church.
  12. 1871 Census - Sutton Place, Shere, Surrey. Servant to a William KENNETT, aged 28 a Farmer of 155 Acres employing 4 labourers and 2 boys, he was single and born in Sussex.
  13. BMD marriage - I am certain that this is the correct marriage, but not certain that he married Mary Jane WOODS - there are three men and two women listed, so there is a woman missing - On the 1881 Census George is married to a Jane so it is possible that she was using her second name, on the other hand the third woman could be a Jane ???. That is the reason for the possibly before the Mary Jane WOODS on the Chart above. Having said that, having now looked at the 1881 Census there is a son down as James WOODS, aged 3 born Guildford, Surrey, so it would appear that I have the correct marriage and that Mary Jane either had a child before marriage or was married previously to a ??? WOODS.
  14. 1881 Census - 19 Clandon Street, East Clandon, Surrey. (see note 13). They had a son George TICKNER, aged 11 months born Shere, Surrey and also there is a son down as James WOODS, aged 3 born Guildford, Surrey
  15. 1881 Census - Dear Leaf?, Wotton, Surrey. I am certain this is correct as William is the correct age and his brother Alfred, also the correct age is with the family, both born in Shere. William and Emily have a daughter Mary Ann, aged 2 months born Shere, Surrey.
  16. IGI marriage date, having found on the BMD I have confirmed the marriage and got the actual date by looking on the IGI
  17. IGI marriage date, having found on the BMD I have confirmed the marriage and got the actual date by looking on the IGI
  18. 1881 Census - 14 Portsmouth Road, Guildford, Surrey. Mary was a servant to an Elizabeth KENSETT, a widow, aged 63 occupation down as Independent, and she was born in Newdigate, Surrey. As well as Mary there was a step daughter and a daughter with Elizabeth.
  19. 1891 Census - High Patir? Road, Merrow, Surrey. Children on this Census - James 13 born Guildford (down as TICKNER on this Census, not WOODS as he was on the 1881 Census), Frank, 7 a Scholar, born Shere, Surrey, Emily 5 and Ethel 2 both born Shere, Surrey.
  20. 1891 Census - Dear Leah? Cottage, Wotton, Surrey. All children born Wotton, Surrey. Mary Ann 10 Scholar, Arthur William 8 Scholar, Henry Albert 5 Scholar and Leonard James 1
  21. IGI marriage date, having found on the BMD I have confirmed the marriage and got the actual date by looking on the IGI
  22. 1891 Census - The Goldings, Abinger, Surrey. Children - Timothy 4 born Dorking, Surrey and Annie 2 born Dorking, Surrey. There was a Albert FRANCIS aged 13 Brother-in-Law a Hoops Shaver born Epsom, Surrey and a Boarder, a Martin BROOKER, aged 17 an Ag Lab born Dorking, Surrey. Then they have listed another daughter a Sarah TICKNER, aged difficult to decide but I think it is a 1 and she was born in Abinger, which would make this age the most likely as they were living in Abinger in 1891. I though it said 8 to start with, but this would mean she was born before they were married and the other children were born in Dorking, so it looks as though they lived there first and moved to Abinger.
  23. IGI marriage date, having found on the BMD I have confirmed the marriage and got the actual date by looking on the IGI. However at present I cannot find Mary and James on the 1891 Census. I have found them on the 1901 Census (see Note 24)
  24. 1901 Census - Wildfields, Worplesdon, Surrey. Children Arthur 13 born Worplesdon, Surrey, an Agricultural Labourer, Ernest 5 born Worplesdon, Surrey, Hilda, 11 months, born Worplesdon, Surrey (even with this information I still cannot find on the 1891 Census)
  25. BMD marriage (cannot find this one on the IGI)
  26. 1891 Census - Rydings Cottages, Shere, Surrey. Children, William 4 born Shere, Surrey, Ada 1 born Shere, Surrey. With the family was Ada TUNNELL, sister, aged 20 Cook Domestic, born Holmbury St Mary, Shere, Surrey.
  27. 1901 Census - 24 North Place, Stoke Within, Guildford, Surrey (Ancestry.com has this family indexed as TURMELL
  28. 1901 Census - Abinger Bottom, Abinger, Surrey. Children - Timothy 14 Cow Boy on Farm, born Wotton, Surrey, Annie 12 born Wotton, Surrey, Sarah 10 born Abinger, Surrey, Ellen 9 born Wotton, Surrey and Elizabeth 6 born Wotton, Surrey.
  29. 1901 Census - Deer Leveys? Cottages, Wotton, Surrey - Children - Harvey 16 Gardener, Domestic, born Wotton, Surrey, Leonard 12 Scholar, born Wotton, Surrey.
  30. Cannot find family on 1901 Census. I think I have found the death of George in 1903 but still cannot find. One of the children was a Frank and I think I have found him in Dorking. As there are charts to do for all the children on this chart is it possible that when I do these I will find the families I have not found on various Censuses at that stage as I find it easier to search for the various things I have to when the are laid out in front of me in the form of a Chart, not as the Notes below.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
