  1. 1871 Milborne Stileham, Dorset. Jane and Charles were visiting a DAVIS family. I would think there were the family of her husband. She is down as married but her husband is not with her.
1881 Woodbury Hill, Bere Regis, Dorset. I think I have found Charles DAVIS on this Census and it might explain the name PHILLIPS and DAVIS used by Charles his son. The Head of household is a Tom PHILLIPS a widower aged 73 born Bere Regis, Dorset, an Ag Labourer with his is his daughter Jane DAVIS down as married aged 34 under occupation is Wife of a Labourer which has been crossed through, she was born in Bere Regis, Then there is Charles DAVIS aged 16 down as a Grandson an Ag Labourer born Bere Regis< Dorset, then a Henry DAVIS aged 5 a Grandson born Bere Regis, Dorset, and then Alice PHILLIPS a Granddaughter aged 9 born Bere Regis, Dorset. (So we now know that Charles Grandfather was a Phillips. (Just as a note one of my closer relation a Charles COBB was living next door to this family on this census)
  2. 1871 Rye Hill, Bere Regis, Wareham, Dorset. Boarding, together with her mother and a number of siblings, with Jacob TOMS (39) Ag Lab 39. The rest of the family are all entered as Boarders John (8), Alice (6), Susan (4) all  Scholars and George (1) all born Bere Regis, Dorset
1881 43 Old Christchurch Road, Holdenhurst, Hampshire. Servant to Albert GREEN (25) Naturalist born Lydlinch, Hampshire, his wife Rhoda (25)
born Lambourne, Berkshire and children Alibert E (8) Scholar, Florence W (6) Scholar and  Frederick T J (3) all born Bournemouth, Hampshire
    1891 Ryekill, Bere Regis, Dorset
1901 38 Wycliffe Road, Winton, Southampton, Hampshire. Living with the PARSONS family were Susan DAVIES Sister-in-law (33) married,
Laundress, nephew Charles DAVIES (8) Scholar and nephew Robert LANGDOWN (19)  Baker's Porter all born Bere Regis, Dorset
1911 16 Luther Road, Winton, Bournemouth, Hampshire. They are down as DAVIS on this Census. Susan is the Head (38) but down as married a Laundress born Bere Regis, Dorset, her son Charles 18) is down as Single a Painter House, born Bere Regis Dorset and they had a lodger an Alfred GIBBS (26) a Painter House born Winton, Hampshire.
We were having problems with this chart at there is some confusion over Charles's surname, ie was it Davies/Davis or Phillips, a contact from his great grandson has started to sort out some of the problems and I have amended the chart to where we are today, the 27th September 2010, below I have left the queries we originally had, until we have finally sorted out everything we can about this family.
After finding the information on the 1901 census that living with James PARSONS was a sister-in-law Susan DAVIES it was thought that Alice's sister Susan LANGDOWN had married an Unknown DAVIES and this information, together with that of Susan's son Charles have been entered in this file accordingly.
However, it has not been possible to find a marriage for a Susan LANGDOWN to a DAVIES.
Nor has it been possible to find the birth for a Charles DAVIES about 1892 in the Wareham District, Dorset.
When entering "Susan" born about 1866 Bere Regis, Dorset into the search for the 1891 census, the only Susan who appears is a Susan PHILLIPS. This was Susan LANGDOWN ho married Charles PHILLIPS on the September quarter of 1885 in the Wareham District. In 1891 Charles and Susan PHILLIPS were living at Ryehill, Bere Regis, Dorset with no children. Charles was 25, a Farm Labourer born Bere Regis, Dorset. They cannot be found on the 1901 census.
To make matters more interesting besides a Charles Herbert PARSONS being born in the December quarter of 1892 in the Wareham District, Dorset, there was also a Charles Davis PHILLIPS born in the September quarter of that year in the same District.
Searches have been made for a Susan PHILLIPS/DAVIS or DAVIES marriage and various other lines of thought have been investigated with no success. Help required!
  3. 1901 38 Wycliffe Road, Winton, Southampton, Hampshire. Living with his mother with James and Alice PARSONS as sister-in-law and nephew. Also
living with them was nephew Robert LANGDOWN (19) Baker's Porter all born Bere Regis,  Dorset
1923 14 Bishop Road, Winton, Bournemouth, Hampshire (address at marriage)
1971 140 Pine Road, Bournemouth, Hampshire (address at death)
Information for Nellie May Maud AMES
1923 13 Luther Road, Winton, Bournemouth, Hampshire (address at marriage)

I had a contact on 25th September 2010 from a Steve PHILLIPS in Texas USA who is a Grandson of Charles and Susan (Davies/Davis) Phillips and Susan Langdown on the chart above. His information has already sorted out some of the problems we were having with this chart and he supplied the photo of Charles and Susan above.
    Steve wrote as follows:
There is an element of mystery surrounding Susan's son Charles but maybe I/we will be able to clear it up as my research develops , I do hope so. My Grandfather served in the Dorset Regiment from 1909-16/1916-18 until wounded in Mesopotamia in 1918 under the name of Charles Davis.
I have his birth certificate and his birth name is Charles Davis Phillips with his parents being Charles Phillips and Susan Phillips nee Langdown. entry #187, book #16 Wareham Registration District (1892). which gives his birth date as 1st July 1892. I also have his death certificate . Died 30th November 1971. which also confirms his DOB as stated on his birth certificate.
I have attached a photograph of Susan with Charles Phillips and a very young Charles Davis Phillips on his knee. I also have included one other of Susan for your records. I also have one other but must locate for you.
I was brought up by Charles Davis Phillips at 140 Pine Road, Winton Bournemouth

I found the following on a Web Site requesting information about the son
Charles Davis Phillips. Joined 3rd Dorset Militia 1909. Great War 1914 Mons Star. 1st Battle of Ypres, wounded, wounded again Palestine . Discharged 16.9.1919 unfit further service. Married. Nellie May Maude Ames in Bournemouth and had 2 children Charles and Peter Phillips. Had own Painting and Decorating business" CD Davis" in Bournemouth circa 1935-50. d.30.11.1971

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
